Panellets: They are DELICIOUS!

PANELLETS – Catalan Almond Sweets

“Panellets” are a traditional sweet from Cataluña, prepared for All Saints Day and served with moscatel or “cava,” Spanish sparkling wine. It is made of equal parts ground almonds and sugar, formed into balls and decorated with pine nuts, rolled in cocoa powder, candied cherries or coconut flakes. They can also be flavoured with coffee or cinnamon. The most popular type is the one rolled in pine nuts.

INGREDIENTS

- 1 kg. Almonds
- 800 grams sugar
- 1 egg
- Pine nuts

PREPARATION
1 Peel the potato and cut into quarters. Boil potato in a saucepan until cooked. Drain water and mash with a fork.
2. Blanch almonds, and then grind until almonds are a fine dust.
3. Add the sugar to the potato and the almonds and mix well until it forms a paste.

4. Roll out the paste and shape small portions into panellets (round, enlongated, etc.) Then brush with egg and roll in confectioner’s sugar.

5. For pine nut panellets, dip each ball in egg white and place in an espresso cup, add pine nuts and roll around in the cup until the pine nuts stick. Remove from the cup when all the pine nuts have stuck and then brush with egg white.

6. Place the panellets on a baking sheet previously oiled with olive oil or butter (to avoid sticking) and put in the oven preheated to 200-220 ªC, 10- 12 minutes. Turn the grill on high and use little or no heat from below to avoid burning the sugar.

TIP
I recommend setting the paste aside for 24 hours.

A special dream!

I had a dream. It was about making this “World” into a place we would like to return to as children in our next lives.

Without giving you any description, the experience while I was dreaming, made a much greater impact on me than you can expect. I got up as a new person, with new things to take into account in my life. The thing is, when you’re involved in a million projects and you don’t want to give anything up. We usually are taking on too much!

Imagine a new world hermetically isolated from contamination and rushing about. Imagine a special destination in a marvelous area where all of one’s desires and dreams become reality. Imagine a new lifestyle while awakening new sensations and emotions which led you discovering yourself.

Actually, I don’t believe in a second life, so I’m really into my daily routine. You can put your foot on and you can’t be a pain in the neck but try to be always happy. We want to be doing everything all of the time; you live just once. Perhaps it’s a good idea to sit back and have a breather once a while.

Best wishes!

Nutrition: Sprouts

Video about healthy food:

In spite of the fact we are in crisis we shouldn't forget healthy food.
Slow economy doesn't mean unhealthy food.

Today we’ve been talking about a curious kind of food: Sprouts. Different sprouts have been mentioned as buckwheat lettuce, garlic chives, golden alfalfa, curly kale, daikon radish or crimson clover. They are considerate as “awesome” food. They are also easy digestive an they are loaded with vitamins (as vitamin c, vitamin D, antioxidants, bioflavinoids and chemo- protectants as nitrosamines and isoflavone).
They seen for most of people nasty food but they are very healthy. They can help overcome health problems. The best of all is, they are high in fibre and low in calories.

In contrast with this idea I would like to talk about junk food as an unhealthy food. Wherever you go you can see Mc Donald, Pizza Hut, Burger King, between others. In my personal opinion habits of eating are changing. I think it is not an affair! Sometimes because we’re lazy, or because we don’t have too much time to eat or too cook, we look the best excuse to eat this kind of food.
Although this food could have a better taste, smell and texture than sprouts it would be a good idea to sit back and have a breather once in a while. We have to thing how and what we are eating!

Anyway my favourite dishes are “Noodles in fish stock” and “Spinach with raisins and pine nuts”. They are really nice and healthy. Don’t you think so?

Some adjectives to describe food, I have learned preparing this lesson and, I want to share with you are:

Taste: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, fermented, sweet, tasty, savoury, pleasant, nice, stale, hot, cold, fine, delicious, spicy, tasteless, fishy, bland, juicy

Texture: hard, tough, dense, slimy, slick, soft, slick, slippery, glossy, light, mushy, fresh, crunchy, burnt, rotten, crispy, raw, tangy, smooth, sticky, lumpy, dry, chewy, bubbly, creamy.

Do you know what do they mean?
Best wishes

Describing Classmates

29th September- Describing Classmates

Hello classmates!

Today I would like to describe some of the classmates I have met. I’m going to give you some information of two of them and you can try to guess who I’m talking about.

My first description is about a girl who is sixteen years old. She is very young! She is studying in the High School and doing the scientific speciality. She wants to study pharmacy in a future.
I don’t know about her family but she is got a sister, she considers herself a very good sister.
In her free time she enjoys travelling and going to the gym. She owns to and excursionist group, so she has the opportunity to travel a lot. She has visited wonderful places as Italy, Rome, and Paris.
In my opinion I’ve been talking with a girl that looks a clever, able, relaxed, sociable, responsible, broadminded, curious, gentle, mature and very outgoing person.

My second description is about a boy. He looks happy go lucky! But He is very intelligent. He is twenty four years old. He has finished his studies in History and now he is working in a library. Apart from the books he has also to do some administrative tasks in the library.
He spends his free time playing basketball. He plays basketball just to have fun because he says his team is not a real team.
He also loves going out with friends, walk and travelling. Last summer he was in Ibiza and now is planning to go to Formentera next summer.
In my opinion he is an intelligent, extroverted, gregarious, active, energetic and very friendly person.

Best wishes!
